I know some of you who have followed Community Matters think I am obsessed with the Wegmans food market chain. The countdown is on for the store’s opening in Malvern, on Route 29; last I heard it may be opening in 2 weeks.
In addition to this week’s news of HH Gregg electronics chain coming to town and filling the empty Circuit City space, there’s some more encouraging local economic business news. Plans have been filed with Upper Merion Township for the construction of a new Wegmans grocery store by the developer of the Village at Valley Forge in King of Prussia. The new Wegmans will sit off North Warner Road and face North Gulph Road. It would be the first project to be developed on the 125-acre property and, by the time it’s completed, the seventh Wegmans to locate in the Philadelphia area. No date has been set for the opening of the King of Prussia store.
Village at Valley Forge is a partnership forged between Realen Properties and Northwest Mutual to develop the property. The first phase of the project was initially set to open last year but the recession delayed it. Let’s hope that this partnership fairs better than the Citizen Bank – O’Neill Properties partnership, location of Wegmans in Malvern. Remember the bank and the developer are embroiled in a multi-billion lawsuit.
