I received a notice from an antique auction site that caught my attention. Although fairly common in some parts of the country, I don’t recall the last time I saw a house and its contents on the auction block in Tredyffrin Township.
On July 16, a ranch style house at 788 N. Valley Road in Paoli is going to be auctioned (open house is this weekend) — details are in the advertisement below. The property includes 3.2 acres and is a fixer-upper. This is a lovely area of the township and my guess is someone may buy it and rather than fixing the house, will knock it down for the property. I’m sure that there is story behind this auction as I am on this road almost every day and there was not a ‘for sale’ sign, so appears that it is going directly to auction. Is this auction an isolated situation, sign of the economic times or foreshadowing of what’s to come.

This property is right next to 202, and not very appealing right now. Perhaps the eventual sound walls will make it a good investment for someone willing to take the long view, though.
You’re right Ray. I drove up N. Valley to find the address — w/o a mailbox, it made it a bit more challenging! But I found it and the driveway is literally next to the 202 overpass on N. Valley. I remember in the winter (when there are no leaves on the trees) that you could see the house and the driveway from 202. I could never figure out how you got to that house and now I know. This could be good project for someone, a real fixer-upper. I originally thought that someone would buy it for the 3+ acres, knock it down and build a mcmansion. But now that I realize where the property is located that may be doubtful. Open house this weekend!
The bigger question is how did the school district get ownership?????????? and why & when???
Soooo sorry for the confusion———no, TESD does not own the house. The house is located in T/E school district. Gosh, I don’t want anyone to think that T/E owns this house!
